This looks like a game website from the early 2000s, back when loads of colors and images were seen as necessary attention-grabbers. Fortunately, graphic design has progressed/regressed back to some basic, simple rules:
1. White space = good. There's no need to address the entire width of the page, especially as more and more people have wider resolutions. When I am reading something on my computer, I don't want the text to actually span across 18 or so inches of monitor width. So rather than having the text boxes automatically stretch to fill the variable width of the page, allow for a simple artistic design (like the one on this very site) or a simple color (like white or very light gray) to column-box the page.
2. Limited, consistent color choices are also good. I find myself more and more in favor of pages that use a very limited palette. For instance, Youtube has white and gray for backgrounds and borders, and then blue for links and black or gray for text. It's incredibly mild, which works great. And there's no gradients. Gradients, like frames, are a good ten years out of fashion by now. Use a very select handful of colors that work with each other, and make sure that stand-out colors are very carefully chosen to call attention only to the most important things. That's why black backgrounds are also a bit out of date -- it makes ALL THE TEXT stand out. Dark gray or black on white is much gentler on the eyes, but also black on white doesn't stand out the way white on black does.
3. Don't even think about visually theming the website on the actual game's graphics. I think this one's been covered already, but Marathon terminals look pretty nasty. At least you went with a sans serif font.
I have to agree with Johannes: Simplici7y might be a pretty soulless site, but it's fairly efficient at conveying information without assaulting the viewer with visual chaff. And, as far as I understand the purpose of this new site, it's going to mostly be for conveying information, rather than being a new message board or something like that.
Anyway, bear in mind that news in the Marathon community is, uh, pretty sparse. It's not incredibly necessary to have the splash page show the last ten or whatever updates considering there's probably four "news"-worthy events per year, at most. I think showing two updates and then a link to older news will be quite enough.

	Message: : This looks like a game website from the early 2000s, back when loads of : colors and images were seen as necessary attention-grabbers. Fortunately, : graphic design has progressed/regressed back to some basic, simple rules: : 1. White space = good. There's no need to address the entire width of the : page, especially as more and more people have wider resolutions. When I am : reading something on my computer, I don't want the text to actually span : across 18 or so inches of monitor width. So rather than having the text : boxes automatically stretch to fill the variable width of the page, allow : for a simple artistic design (like the one on this very site) or a simple : color (like white or very light gray) to column-box the page. : 2. Limited, consistent color choices are also good. I find myself more and : more in favor of pages that use a very limited palette. For instance, : Youtube has white and gray for backgrounds and borders, and then blue for : links and black or gray for text. It's incredibly mild, which works great. : And there's no gradients. Gradients, like frames, are a good ten years out : of fashion by now. Use a very select handful of colors that work with each : other, and make sure that stand-out colors are very carefully chosen to : call attention only to the most important things. That's why black : backgrounds are also a bit out of date -- it makes ALL THE TEXT stand out. : Dark gray or black on white is much gentler on the eyes, but also black on : white doesn't stand out the way white on black does. : 3. Don't even think about visually theming the website on the actual game's : graphics. I think this one's been covered already, but Marathon terminals : look pretty nasty. At least you went with a sans serif font. : I have to agree with Johannes: Simplici7y might be a pretty soulless site, : but it's fairly efficient at conveying information without assaulting the : viewer with visual chaff. And, as far as I understand the purpose of this : new site, it's going to mostly be for conveying information, rather than : being a new message board or something like that. : Anyway, bear in mind that news in the Marathon community is, uh, pretty : sparse. It's not incredibly necessary to have the splash page show the : last ten or whatever updates considering there's probably four : "news"-worthy events per year, at most. I think showing two : updates and then a link to older news will be quite enough.
