Well, you're right that the emphasis isn't spread out over the three columns: it's almost entirely on the news section now. Why? Like Johannes Gunnar said, news isn't that important for the site. People who are already active members don't need m.b.o to be a primary news page, and that news is largely irrelevant to new people coming in to check out Aleph One or the story. The new people are really who we want to target: portals are only useful to people who haven't yet arrived where they're going.
The way I see it, the What Is and Aleph One sections should be the most emphasized on the page (and expanded upon), while the site links should be the next most emphasised. They should probably be reorganized, as some of those are frequently used, and others are old and crappy. In fact, some of those sites don't even work: I've literally never known what alt.games.marathon is, and I started getting active years too late for the Ar'kives.
On a separate note, what visual theme should we use for the site? The first two general ides that come to my mind would be one similar to the current Bnet theme (glassy/modern), and one using updated versions of the Marathon theme graphics. We already have the .bmp images in Aleph One (Themes/Default), and I could recreate them for larger image sizes and qualities than what's currently there.

	Message: : Well, you're right that the emphasis isn't spread out over the three columns: : it's almost entirely on the news section now. Why? Like Johannes Gunnar : said, news isn't that important for the site. People who are already : active members don't need m.b.o to be a primary news page, and that news : is largely irrelevant to new people coming in to check out Aleph One or : the story. The new people are really who we want to target: portals are : only useful to people who haven't yet arrived where they're going. : The way I see it, the What Is and Aleph One sections should be the most : emphasized on the page (and expanded upon), while the site links should be : the next most emphasised. They should probably be reorganized, as some of : those are frequently used, and others are old and crappy. In fact, some of : those sites don't even work: I've literally never known what : alt.games.marathon is, and I started getting active years too late for the : Ar'kives. : On a separate note, what visual theme should we use for the site? The first : two general ides that come to my mind would be one similar to the current : Bnet theme (glassy/modern), and one using updated versions of the Marathon : theme graphics. We already have the .bmp images in Aleph One : (Themes/Default), and I could recreate them for larger image sizes and : qualities than what's currently there.
