![]() | In Response To: Terminology questions (MrHen) : While working on the wiki, I ran into some interesting questions involving
: What should the main character be called? Its main article is currently
: Here, at MSP he is referred to as "You". The Marine apparently
I'd have a page titled "Player" that redirects to "Player (Marathon)", with a note at the top saying something like: "This article is about the unnamed player character in [[Marathon (game)|Marathon]], [[Marathon 2: Durandal]], and [[Marathon Infinity]]. For the player character in [[Pathways into Darkness]], see [[Sergeant Eddings]]." Most people assume "Mjolnir Recon Number 54" is the player, but I don't think that's ever been officially confirmed. Perhaps another thing to ask Frankie or KP to answer in a future Bungie Update? : The other question would be what to call non-player entities. Obviously we
"NPCs"? Though some people might use the term to describe the dead people in PID as well. (I don't think anyone would exctend it to non-interactive characters like the AIs, even though it technically describes them. They're characters in the story, but not in the game.) "Monster" in Marathon engine terminology covers anything that's capable of moving around and isn't a player, polygon, liquid or texture. But I'm not sure that definition covers monsters with a speed of 0, like the potted plants in Pfh'J or the alien workers in Rubicon. Also, I'm not sure whether the term applies in the PID engine.
