I agree, but come to a different conclusion

In Response To: That's what I'm saying. (RyokoTK)

: The person manipulating the keyboard ("gamer") is totally
: irrelevant to anything discussed in-universe, because you (MrHen) are
: right; the gamer and the SO are two different entities. The thing is,
: though, it doesn't matter. Nothing in the Trilogy refers to the gamer, so
: there's no place where calling the SO the "player" would cause
: confusion. Nothing either in the games or any proposed wiki is stating
: that the player is the gamer, but rather the avatar thereof.

I agree that the player is irrelevant. So why make reference to the player at all, unless necessary?

There are going to be references to the players outside of the context of the Marathon story. Strategies and multi-player are the two most obvious examples.

Theoretically, if I am writing an article about House of Pain and say that "During a king of the hill match, [[player]]s often dodge in and out of the hill." the link should not take me to an article on the Security Officer, the Main character, or the Player character. It should take me to an article on players. The article will be rather empty, because no one really cares, but it makes sense.

Links coming from a story-line perspective should not end up at an article about players (regardless of how sparse the article is). Besides, since the player is not actually a character, the link really should not reference the player anyway (as opposed to Player character, in which the Player is just the descriptor).

But whatever. This particular distinction is not really important. The difference between "Player character" and "Main character" is really what needs to be decided. As of Forrest latest couple posts, however, I think I will switch to "Player character".
