I heartily agree with this approach. One of the nice things about AO as opposed to most modern games is that it can be played on virtually any computer that has basic graphics capabilities. Even my old Beige G3 can play almost all scenarios that don't absolutely require OpenGL or 3D models. The nice thing about AO is that it's so easy to support the entire spectrum of computing within a single framework - sprites and low-res textures for low-end computers and 3D models and high-res textures for the absolute high end.
