In Response To: Re: Now your're talking! (Adam Ashwell) : It's great to have you on the team. So we've got Yossarian, Jacke, D-M.A,
I think you're going to want to take this a litte slower Adam, the idea itself is only a few hours old. Won't we look the fools rushing into this only for it to fall apart within a week? Committing to this is a serious thing, and many times those to sign up first are the first to drop. I don't mind having my name on the list, and my official stance on this is I will contribute in any capacity in which I am capable to do so, however large or small that may be. Story development I can do, but never have for a scenario before, nor have I written terminals. If you want to check out what I've done, take a look over at MaraFF. I think if you/we are really serious about this, we're going to want to first get feedback from those with more experience doing this, see who else has dedicated interest, and then select the roles for those on hand. The last thing we want is 20 people working on story and a lone mapmaker. If we can't find a balance, maybe we should re-assess who's doing what and see who needs training/development. If we don't have the tools or the people, we may not have a project. Don't annouce it as official or live just yet, give people time to think about, maybe for more to join, and even for some to drop out if necessary. Then we review waht we have as a team and make a group decision. Also, this scenario needs a dedicated project manager, someone with plenty of experience with all aspects of scenario adaptation and can delegate repsonsibilities and understand the abilities of the team and the resources they bring to the table. If such a person cannot be found, or some team members do not like the person selected, you're going to have some nice problems. IN ADDITION, once/if things are solidified, a schedule is going to have to be drafted and goals created; individual and group, and the PM has to have the personality and persuasion to make sure these get done. Lastly: COMMUNICATION, that's right, in caps. Not just the tools to communicate (e-mail, IM, forums, fileservers, etc.) but the ability. Ideas have to be communicated and communicated clearly and corectly. Once you've got the balance, the resources, the leadership, and the plan, and the dedication, then man, you're golden. Trust me on this, I'm a project coordinator, I do this stiff for a living (but not the dude to lead this kind of thing up, sorry). Just food for thought. I know waiting and categorizing and organizing isn't fun, but it is FUNdamental...ha ha ha...heh. :cough: But seriously, going headfirst into a project without the above stuff is like trying to do a 600 meter run through horseshit piled six feet high.
