One of the more interesting tidbits that Durandal gives us in passing in M2, on the level Come and Take Your Medicine, is that he returned to earth after the Marathon incident to warn humankind about the Pfhor and to show them how to make warp-capable fusion rockets. Not much has been written about this that I'm aware of, but imagine the reaction to Durandal's arrival back at Sol. If Tau Ceti is in fact 92 light years away from Sol, then humanity would not be aware that the Marathon had even arrived at Tau Ceti, let alone that a colony had been established. Let's assume for the sake of this argument that the Marathon has been sending steady progress reports back to Sol, and that the UESC has been keeping the crew of the Marathon aprised of events back home. By this time, the progress reports that earth has been receving are about 2/3 of a century old.
With this as background, imagine the sudden appearance of an alien spacecraft, appearing out of nowhere since it travels faster than light. A transmission originating from the ship informs whoever is listening, in English, that the ship is under the control of one of the Marathon's AI's and that the colony on Tau Ceti has been attacked by the aliens that built this ship. Would anyone believe this? Just imagine how events would unfold. This could be the basis of a great story on the fan fiction page, or for a great scenario ;-)
