In Response To: Re: Durandal's first return to earth (Steve Levinson) Yes, regardless of the time/distance it would be interesting. My correction aside, it's probable it happened the way you told it. (I re-read the term.) But your post poked a brain cell... Yet I warned Sol of its impending invasion, Now why would Durandal teach humans to build 'Warp Capable Fusion Missles' and not just plain old 'Warp Drive'? Did humanity already have warp tech by then? Furthermore, in the term: I can barely tolerate humans: slow, stupid, What chance discovery? My understanding was that ALL AIs go rampant once they reach a certain level of technological sophistication and 'connectivity'. Does this mean that Durandal's rampancy is something special? Or is he just referring to the 'chance discovery' that made super-sophisticated AIs possible in the first place? An old Jason Jones news post seems to confirm this: Tycho, after having been destroyed in the initial attack, was reanimated by a splinter group of compilers "in Durandal's image". That Durandal's true self-awareness was a fluke is made clear by Tycho's obvious insanity, *even* though the S'pht attempted to duplicate the progression of Durandal's rampancy exactly. While Tycho did not play any role of consequence in Marathon, we thought it was important to demonstrate that Durandal's condition was unique. So, 'true self awareness' a 'fluke'! There it is in black and yellow: Durandal has the brain of a flatworm... |
