Agreed, that's a valid interpretation. And if it's true, then it doesn't invalidate the rest of what I said, it just means that maybe /Bernhard/ wanted to stop us getting fried.

But that doesn't mean that it's not a valid interpretation to think that either Bernhard was trying to do away with us, or Durandal was through temporary insanity. (Until we finally meet up with him next, when he's progressed into the second stage of rampancy, he is a little haywire, you have to admit.) Maybe at this stage he didn't have plans for us.

Besides, the mara1 manual text is confusing in parts. There's the date issues and the time issues, which have already been covered to death.

But what about...

During the daydream, you barely notice the change to zero gravity or the instruments and lights signifying the rendezvous of the shuttle with the Marathon.

This makes it sound like you've /already/ rendezvoused with the Marathon... Mirata is already in the docking bay??

Then we have the fact that Durandal orders maximum engine burn, /towards/ the Marathon, which knocks us /back/ into the escape pod, which fires /back/ out from the Mirata, riding the shockwave. Now if we don't use thrusters... how exactly do we end up back at the Marathon in 22 minutes??

And if you're going to say gravity, then... well done... i just thought of that...

Oh, I give up. I spent too much time on this last night. It was just a theory.
