This. I don't know much else to add.

Except, I guess to clarify: I don't think the levels are representations of the actual "metaphysical space", but of the character's perception of that "space", or of the process of "navigating between timelines". Being all the character's mind trying to make sense of this unusual process, the process is represented to him figuratively, much like dreams.
