Viewing this text as non-diegetic is not "writing it off". Just because something is non-diegetic does not mean it's not important.

What is perhaps more asinine is thinking that just because we've seen non-diegetic text expressed in a few specific formats in past games, that the creators of this game would never stray from that format ever again. Double Aught was clearly experimenting with a lot of different aspects of storytelling in a game. Some of those experiments worked, I think some didn't. But because they were experimenting with new ways of doing things we can't just lean on the logic of "well it wasn't done this way in the previous games".
