So your interpretation is that the main character travels through a metaphysical liminal space and is conscious of this journey, but the dream levels are the 2.5D shooter representation of that space?

If so, how do you square things such as Where Are Monsters In Dreams having a completely different style and design from other dream levels? Or the grey S'pht and Enforcers? Or the short stories themselves?
