In Response To: Where are the Covenant A.I.'s? (Simpsons Rule) I prefer the 'organic technology' theory myself, compare the T&R and the PoA in the last two levels of the game, on the Covenant ship the Flood have created a 'pilot' organism out of Keyes and at least one other (probably an Elite). On the Pillar of Autumn there is no such construct, suggesting that the Covenant ship requires some form of dedicated controller, linked up to the ships systems, while we know the PoA has manual controls (and maybe a tractable 'dumb' AI) cos Keyes landed it on his own. Why do you need ship AIs anyway? Because human reaction times are too slow? If you could attach a specially bred organism directly to the ships systems, you wouldn't need one to pilot a ship, and the Covenant *are* vastly superior at organic technology. At a guess Prophets are the Covenant's version of Mentats (from Dune), as well as leaders (or maybe they have dedicated organic computers) able to process data like a computer, so maybe the Covenant have no need for AIs. |
