In Response To: Where are the Covenant A.I.'s? (Simpsons Rule) : Cortana is a pretty damn good A.I. She can easily access the Covenant battle
I'm assuming many of you here have read Neuromancer by William Gibson. If you haven't read it, I suggest NOT reading the sentendes that follow :) *SPOILER ALERT* Something interesting happens in the Coda at the end concerning the two AIs, Wintermute and Neuromancer. They meld and become something more. To me, it seems that they've attained an awareness and comprehension of the universe and life in it beyond that of humans, so much so that they seem god-like (though the AI does not say this). This is my interpretation, of course, and I'm welcome to other insights into the novel. This is a bit far-fetched, but perhaps the gods that the Covenant worship are actually AI (Durandal anyone?). This would explain why the Covenant wish to capture Cortana, and why they say that their actions were commanded by the gods in Fall of Reach. If this is so, humans are essentially creating what the Covenant believe are gods or god-like entities, which would be a big no-no.*END SPOILER* Of course, this doesn't explain a number of things, but I thought I'd empty the brain and see what you guys thought :) |
