Once again, he latches on to a single element of a concept and ignores the rest.

Counter play doesn't mean that you can turn the tables at any time. League has endless unwinnable situations, and you get into them by trying different strategies and reacting to the enemy's choices. I can lose a game and still have fun - if the loss is the result of an interesting interaction with another player, I'm happy. Yes, power - through improved gear, abilities, whatever - is a reward for good playing. That's fine. Sniper rifles are difficult to use at close range, one of the elements of counter-play for the gear: to beat a sniper, you risk yourself to get close.
