Again Extra Credits is clueless

In Response To: Counter-play (Leisandir) Counter play is good up to a point, but nearly all good games allow players to get in massively advantageous situations (like the sniper example). Why? Because that actually adds complexity. If you have a scenario where one team or one player gets a massive advantage, then you get meta game with people trying to achieve that / prevent the other side from getting it. The advantage shouldn't be easy to get, but if you get it then you can deserve it. Fighting games wouldn't BE what they are without this. In a combo, if you get off the first hit and you perform the rest correctly, there's nothing your opponent can do to avoid the hits. ZOMG, no counter play! Well guess what, that stuff is the bread and butter of competitive play. Just like power weapons and map control are the bread and butter of FPS competitive play. Can you imagine how boring a game would be, if at any time you strategy could be countered by the opposing team? There'd be no way to outwit them and pin them down. Mechanics with no or little counter play are extremely valuable, provided they are difficult to obtain / easy to prevent, or otherwise require skill to execute.
