I mean, seriously, I'm expected to believe that the Klingons are a warlike, honor-bound species, and yet just about the only martial art/dueling weapon they created was the batleth? Since the Covenant is a homogenizing influence in addition to being a hegemonizing influence (A pun that doesn't make me cringe? Gasp!) I can see that some traits would be magnified and standardized. The fishhook prow seen on several classes of carrier, for example, probably has some sort of cultural significance. But the idea that no Docha tells its younglings who their fathers are, or that the Arum is used by every clan makes me shrug. So, in my fanfiction at least, one Docha doesn't observe the father taboo, another uses knot puzzles in place of wooden Arums, and a third has the rather strange tradition of burning a house down when the Sangheili who lived there have passed away.
