There's one thing Halo can never claim...

In Response To: Re: More concerned about the fact.... (uberfoop) ... and that is consistent art design. First Bungie's art guys and now 343I's have always played fast and loose. It's like there's some unspoken rule that requires that all weapons and characters must be completely remodeled each game. Simply upping the polygon count and texture resolution isn't enough. There's only a few things that remained (mostly) consistent across the series. The AR (well, except Reach's variant, which was Army gear) and energy sword have retained pretty much the same look without any radical change, and the general architectural aesthetics of the UNSC, Covenant, and Forerunners are fairly consistent. Sure, some things have perfectly fine explanations for why they look different (the Reach AR being an Army weapon; the Covies in Halo 4 are not regular military personnel and thus don't use standard armor, etc.), but some changes are just change for changes sake and have no valid explanation (e.g., entire species or specific weapon & vehicle models changing their physical appearance). Personally, I prefer a bit of visual consistency. Improving the overall quality of something (poly counts, textures, etc.) is fine, but radically redesigning everything kind of makes it feel like each game exists in its own continuity separate from the others. Other sci-fi franchises maintain better visual consistency than Halo (though to be fair they're not games and thus don't have graphics engines that differ every single title). It's not a deal-breaker by any means — Reach's designs bugged me too when I first saw them but they grew on my over time, so maybe Halo 4's will too —, but it just bugs me.
