In Response To: Re: Wow, I'll be picking this up. (YNation913) : I had always assumed that the Librarian only discovered Earth towards the end : of the Flood War and was surprised to find a species there that was so : similar to the Forerunners. IRIS had that bit, after all, about the irony : of Earth being discovered at the end of things. That was my understanding before I read chapter one. Things have definitely changed. I'm not sure that these changes can be reconciled with what had gone before. : I have a feeling that this hasn't been fully explained yet, and that the role
I'm probably being too picky. If the story was a hard hard SF story then we would have to share a common ancestor but even hard science fiction is rarely that concerned with scientific accuracy. : What seems really interesting to me is that if humans somehow forgot over
I think that they want to include the Cortana letters, bring them further into the canon fold. In those letters Sol once had colonies and then lost them and reverted to a pee-scientific state. Once they went back into space they found humans already living on the planets that they found. The funny thing is that there is no mention of lost colonies in the books or the games. Will this change in future? Will we find that the Humans of the UNSC era now know of lost colonies? Will it turn out that Arcadia (for instance) already had Humans on it when it was 'discovered'? Could the Cortana letters be brought into the fold without changing the timing of Earth's discovery? In one scenario the Forerunners could have played the Covenant's role and could have bombed Sol's colonies back into the stone age but maybe they didn't find Earth. Earth's ciiv could have collapsed on its own due to the cost of the war or due to overpopulation. In that scenario they would have been hunting Human worlds just as the Covenant did many years later. This would leave Earth undiscovered for perhaps thousands of years until L: finally found it just before the Array activation.
