: you mentioned you like to tag along with another player - this is actually a
: pretty bad strategy as one rocket can take you both out, it tends to be
: better to split up in such a way that everyone can shoot the same spot on
: the map, but someone cant quite hit 2 of you at once - with randoms i
: guess this is near enough impossible to set up, but if your playing with
: randoms ide hazard a guess that you cause as much damage as you do help
: when you follow someone around as you dont know theyre intentions and when
: they may be trying to sneak up on someone etc - again not trying to be a
: prick, just offering a bit of advice, it annoys the hell out of me when
: someone decides to tag onto me as it really restricts what i can do

In the air, we had a general rule that the wing holds as close to his lead as possible while staying outside the radius of a tank explosion. The same sort of idea might be applied on the ground, although one wonders whether the distance you'd need to avoid, say, rockets, might not put you so far apart as to make coordination difficult.

Another principle was that it is solely the responsibility of the wing to stay with his partner. The lead, being 1) busy with other things, such as actually planning out where you're going, and 2) unable to see you without looking back, is unable to worry about unit cohesion. So the wing has to keep tight, and we had some verbal commands to help him a little (for instance to hold the lead up for a moment, letting the wing close the gap some more).

One final thing worth thinking about is division of responsibility. A somewhat simple but effective way of organizing the two-person unit is to basically have one guy tend to do one thing and the other doing something else. For instance, one Banshee might stay mostly high while the other stayed mostly low, or one might hover and bombard while the other dismounted and dropped a rocket. If this sort of thing, or a set of them, could be planned out and agreed-upon in advance, you'd know what you're doing before the engagement began, and issues of real-time tactical coordination would be alleviated.
