In Response To: Re: Astronomic sleuthing (Bigger *SP*!) (Simpsons Rule) : This was my first impression while playing through the Ark: I looked to the : sky and saw a galaxy, but not the Milky Way because in my mind the Milky : Way doesn't look like that. That's not what the image of the Milky Way has : been for years... : When I hear the Marine say "Is that..." I assume he was going to
: But first impressions may not mean everything... : At the map, Guilty Spark says that the Ark was 2^18 light years from galactic
: Anyone know how the Milky Way would look 262,144 light years from galactic
: -SR Now to try my hand at analysis WITHOUT doing bad math...heh. If the galaxy is 100,000 light years across, and we're 262,144 ly away... 100,000/262,144 = .262144, or 26 % of the sky could be illuminated by a very visible, large Milky Way galaxy. It looks to be fairly close to that in the picture and from remembering that part in the Ark.
