The armor doesn't look as awesomely detailed, but that's a good thing. It's a good thing, you hear me?! That means the power and resources it took to render the old armor has been put to better use somewhere else. Let's face it, when playing Halo's campaign, how often do you find yourself staring at the Chief? Once per cutscene, at most. Maybe a bit more often with the third-person weapons involved, but still. It still looks excellent, and I'm sure they could afford a higher resolution grass texture or some new normal maps for the cost of the old armor's bumpyness, which is power much better spent. That's what game development is. It's about what resources you have and how you use them. Bungie just found a way to improve the usage of their resources, and it involved de-detailing something you won't be looking much at anyway. Good trade, I'd say.
