There IS : bumb mapping and there IS texture on the new armor. You have to zoom in on : the edges of the highletted areas where there's a bit of burn-in. You can : see the bump textures on the edges of those highlights. The texture now is : just smaller and more subtle and, God forbid, more metallic-looking. I agree. Spartan armor should be something that looks tough but also high tech. If you ran your finger over the announcement armor it would have fairly large bumps all over its surface, not the kind of thing a piece hugely expensive precision engineering would have. The new armor looks like it would feel solid and metallic, not quite smooth, but certainly not so bumpy that you can see surface features for a pretty good distance away.
