Harkening back to Halo 1 (in a good way) | |

In Response To: Re: Holy shit Bungie..... (LoneRanger 2.5) Y'know, at first I was with all the naysayers... and then I thought about all my hopes and dreams for Halo 3, and realized that this is straight in line with what I wanted - When comparing Halo 1 and Halo 2, the main thing that stands out to me (in single player, at least) is the sense of mystery and alien-ness of Halo 1. The discovery of the Covenant, the Halos, the Flood... everything just snapped into place - and this was due in large part to the clean, graphically impressive but not overly-detailed character models and environments. Halo 2's graphical style was much more akin to a last-generation attempt at the original look of Halo 3 - maintain Halo's general art style, but cram unnecessary graphical hoo-ha into every corner. And the result made everything feel a little bit too... touched-up, I guess. The sense of the unknown was lost from Halo 1 to Halo 2 because of this, in my opinion. Anyways, Master Chief's new look seems to be much closer to Halo 1's model (with all appropriate graphical updates - I'm NOT saying it's any less graphically advanced than models we've seen in other footage), and I'm glad for it.
