In Response To: A simple solution to a complex problem (CYBRFRK) : 1. Put a FORM in place requiring certain levels of information, this should : include answering questions (that you pose) and ensuring that basic : criteria is met. If the YES questions do not have YES, then the submission : is declined. Just replaces requests for movie promotion with tech support questions regarding the submission form. : 2. Let them upload with the form, placing the content in a secure location. : Allow a status to be displayed, so that the individual can check on the : status of their file. Most browsers and most servers have an upper limit on how much data can be POSTed in a form, and it's smaller than many, if not most, Halo vids. : 3. Create a peer-review process. Take 10 or 15 volunteers to recieve an email : when the content is submitted. They now have the "special : access" to download the content, review it, RATE IT, and leave : comments. Peer review I think is the ticket. But it needs to be bundled in with the distribution process itself-- even 15 new editors is not enough. If that was the solution, Wu would just add 15 volunteer staffers at HBO. I think BitTorrent with a dedicated Halo movie torrent tracker, as well as some kind of moderation system, would at least eliminate the amount of crap that Wu (and everyone else) is exposed to, without depending on authors to exhibit self-restraint.
