In Response To: The Halo Movie Conundrum *LONG* (Louis Wu) OK, so I'm one of the 1 in 5, but I have not read the rest of the posts, so my apologies if these suggestions are repetitive. These suggestions assume that there is an A-list of folks, kept my Louis, who always get their submissions reviewed by him up front. 1) Leverage the community. Solicit volunteers who would be willing to review 1-2 movies/week against the guidelines, and maybe for quality/content. Those that pass muster get passed on to Louis for final review and potential posting. I assume there might be a way to automate this to reduce the administrative burden, although I admit I'm not smart enough to know how that would be done. Consistent good submissions get you on the A-list. 2) Require submitters to find their own hosting up front, and provide a videos page with links to those sources (there are plenty out there). Set up a ranking system where movies are rated by the community (I know this assumes that somehow you can limit votes per IP address). Once 100 people have viewed a movie, those with 'five stars' make it to the news page and are hosted by HBO. Consistent 5 stars get you on the A-list. I know that #2 actually encourages ignoring the guidelines, but I honestly find it hard to believe that everyone will follow them, esp. given the current situation. Louis, I'd be curious to know how your original post affects submissions, and how long it takes for the dip in the graph to return to pre-post levels....
