In Response To: Warthog Analysis: Revision II (Speedy) Well, I've got an engineering degree already and I design suspension parts for our company's own custom 4x4 system and I can tell you, your anaylsis, while well thought out, is way beyond what it takes to get it done realistically and efficiently. The single "spring" shock system(called a coil-over shock) wouldn't be able to take the abuse by itself given the vehicle's weight. Currently, dirt bike developers are designing a torsional fluid-dampened swingarm rear suspension system. Basically, a circular coil-over shock. It greatly reduces rear tire bounce and overally weight. I'm not sure which new bike(s) already have it, but it's revolutionary. Applying this to the Warthog model, the rod mount for your suspension becomes obselete and the pivot point moves back a foot and ends in this new "circular coil-over shock". Takes up a lot less room, too. Plus, under the Hog, when the suspension travels up and down, the pivot pont appears to be a bit further back into the body(given the size of the black rectangles allowing for suspension travel). Three gears? One gear? Doesn't matter. Both are possible today as well. The new Ford 500 sedan comes with their new CVT transmission. Take a look: http://perso.wanadoo.fr/x9-500/ssi/conseil-meca-levariateur-general.shtml Two sets of variable width conical discs, one chain, endless gear ratio possibilities from 0.41:1 to 5.41:1, not just four or five gears. As far the engine goes, I'm thinkin' propane injected bio-diesel would do the trick QUITE nicely. Gobs of torque. Face it folks, the technology is here, today. Who's gonna build it? Jeep? Ford? Bungie? ;) -Bigjooj |
