In Response To: Re: And a rather glaring problem... (stephen bronskill) : About the power source, : On the E3 Demo of 03, I thought I saw a bilboard ad for an electric civillian
: They probably wouldn't have any oil left in 1000 years anyhow Because everyone knows that Internal Combustion Engines only use petroleum.
Also, a major flaw in the original post is that all designs of current hybrid electric vehicles are being ignored. The design of the warthog in the post was drastically over simplified. The HP of a gas engine cannot be compared to the HP output of an electric motor. This is due to the torque curves being drastically different. I have had a design team researching the potential of building a real-world Warthog. We already determined the optimal Engine/Electric Motor combination. However, the problem we encountered was where to keep the fuel. Ignoring the problem of lack of Hydrogen Fuel Stations, this one requires some major advancements in engine fuel consumption technology. The other major problem we encountered was constructing the struts in such a way that they would not bend and crack in half at the first hill/jump. The diagonal stress of the struts supporting the roughly 4 tons of vehicle/weaponry (we have plans for a paintball minigun)/passengers was far too great for normal construction materials.
The initial fabrication costs and testing estimates placed a single hog around $1,400,000. |
