Yes, I did simplify the design quite a bit because I didn't think it would be worth it to explain all the details of modern hybrid cars. Also, I did say that I was assuming a "perfect" system, which allows for gross over-simplifications. : The other major problem we encountered was constructing the struts in such a

I thought Subnova core was in Florida? Seemed like a pretty flat place last time I was there =D Also, Jesus that's a lot of money. (Actually, not much compared to one-off concept vehicles now.) And to those who pointed out the Bungie article: I did take some information from it, but some things cited in the article are pretty obviously just made up to sound cool. I decided to go with common sense and the model over "article for fun" when the game and literature contradicted. Not to mention: "The single biggest improvement over the last revision (2549) is the massive increase per wheel in horsepower/killowattage. As with every other iteration of the Hog, each wheel has an independent drive by wire electric engine, with power generated by a forward-housed low-profile hydrogen I/C plant. The hydrogen fuel is burned at very high temperature with a synthetic carbon/silicon catalyst to achieve even better fuel consumption." While it shoots down my rear-housed engine idea (Which I still find it more possible to have a rear mounted given the extremely small amount of space in the front of the Hog in Halo 1.), it clearly states that it's a form of internal combustion. I for one would be terrified to have a hydrogen-powered vehicle in combat (Ever popped a hydrogen balloon? Even a small one can be deadly at close range.), so I made a judgement call and decided that the military hog may have a different form of power. Also, while we may run out of fossil fuels on earth, what's to say that our other planets won't have some reserves? |
