Steve, you should have written a bit more of that essay, because I'm not sure what the pictures were supposed to mean. If they were meant to refute the point that 66 tons of crates would be too big to carry, they didn't. If they were meant to support that point, well, they sort of did. If they were meant to show that realistically as well as theoretically aircraft can lift heavy things, well, I don't think that was ever the question. The point Series III was making was that a number of crates whose weight equals that of a tank (66 tons, apparently) would be far too large in VOLUME to be effectively carried by a Pelican, regardless of whether it could lift that amount of weight. At some point, no matter how light the thing is, the size and air resistance that it would add to the vehicle would make it impossible to carry. -Sep7imus thinks that it's safe to say that, for whatever reason, the crates were deposited there by other Pelicans that left or were dropped in from up high in some manner. | |
