you miss the point, lighting tears a hole in the atmosphere, thus the flash and crashing sound of thunder that occurs soon after the bolt occurs. if particles can move the speed of light, theres no reason a dense mass couldn't

you missed alexander's point too as he was talking about 'projectile avoidance' by saying putting a gun that fires 1000 m/s in space would take too long to cover the distance in space to the enemy warship. i think its common sense that an object in motion stays in motion in space.

1.5 seconds is actually the time it takes for light to impossibly travel from the center of Earth's mass to the center of the Moons mass. by subtracting the combined distance of the radius of both celestial bodies, 8.11E6 m, the average distance between the surfaces of the moon and the earth is 3.7589E8 m
light, moving 3E8, covers that distance in approximately a second.
