They : fire their projectiles so fast that the atmosphere would tear them apart. : The shockwaves from the vacume that would form behind them would cause : incredible ammounts of collateral dammage.(Which could be a good thing. : lol) : Conventional Missile batteries or smaller vehicle mounted MAC's would work : though. small ones for vehicles wouldnt be practical. it would take to long to charge, cost to much and need a lot of energy. it would be better to just fire missiles or bullets. then again, mabye if they scaled them down to that size they would be a lot more efficent than the ship mounted MACs. who knows. also, i always figured that reach had 1 ring of MAC guns around it, like in one of your pictures, but 1 instead of 3. i thought the same would be true with earth too. if there were 3 rings than earth would have a much higher chance of repeling the covie attack, making it seem not so perilous.
