In Response To: Re: Halo 2 Uses Havok 2 Physics Engine (Dark Bastion) : I hope that's not true. I mean, yeah, Havok is cool and all, but after Deus
Yes, I made all of that up and even created a website to support my fake claims. Havok is applied however the developer chooses to apply it. Just because the devs of Max Payne 2 and Deus Ex 2 decided to use the default setup (or so I'm assuming by your comments) for the games doesn't mean that is the only way the engine can be applied. Bungie can make a body 1,000 pounds or 200 pounds and make the engine react accordingly. As I stated in another reply, the Havok engine is fully customizable so Bungie can change the physics however they may wish. Middleware is sometimes seen as cookie-cutter code but I think it's really up to the developer to break that image - I'm confident that Bungie can make better use of the Havok engine than the default setup distributed by Havok and give it the good 'ol Halo feel. Havok is all about customizing the engine to your needs, it does everything but lets you specify how it does it. Vehicle physics? Check. Character physics? Check. Environment physics (think X03 video and those weird radio-like things)? Check. Everything is covered and most importantly Havok is cross platform so it's easier to port it over to the PC later on. -Nick |
