Re: Halo 2 Uses Havok 2 Physics Engine

In Response To: Halo 2 Uses Havok 2 Physics Engine (Nick)

: So the other day while on my ninja mission to Bungie I rummaged through their
: source code only to discover they're using the Havok 2 physics engine for
: Halo 2! No more in-house physics from Bungie; however it's still a good
: thing for us because Havok 2 kicks ass.

: Yea ok, I didn't really go on a ninja mission to Bungie and get to look
: through their source code. Hey, I can dream, can't I? But they are using
: the Havok 2 physics engine it seems, or so this document says. And I
: quote: "Havok 2.0 was launched at the Game Developers Conference of
: 2003 and is currently being used in a number of top game titles, including
: Half Life 2, Deus X II and Halo 2 ."

: I searched the news and the forum (current and archived) for a mix of the
: terms "Halo 2 Havok" and found a nice mix of discussion about
: the HAVOK tactical nuke in the books - nothing on the Havok Engine. If
: it's old news, sue me and put it on my bill.

: Go Bungie! Havok's engine kicks ass.

: -Nick

I hope that's not true. I mean, yeah, Havok is cool and all, but after Deus Ex 2 and Max Payne 2, it's novelty has worn off. Now it just seems stupid that a dead body flops on the ground like it's 2 pounds of nothing, or everything has the same non-mass attached to it. One of the things that I loved about Halo was how the physics - be it as minute as grenade tossing or as major as a rocket impact on an airborne warthog - weren't and couldn't seen in any other game; that's what made it awesome. I just hope that Bungie uses the Havok engine as a source, and vastly overhauls it for the final product.
