In Response To: I saw it too.. I think... (DeusExMachina =PN=) If the gravity on the halo is produced purely by the rotation of the ring then how can there be an escape velocity? Surely it would be easy to just jump over the side and be flung into space by the rotation just like on a hammer throw. Given that we know the diameter we could work out the frequency and period of rotation which would produce one G or 9.8ms-1 (sorry I only know metric :). Has anyone done this calculation? Unfortunately I do not know the formula as school has been out in New Zealand for over a month and I promptly forgot it after exams. What my real question is is how can tbere be an escape velocity if "gravity" on the halo is produced by rotation. | |
