![]() | In Response To: Re: My own terminology question (MrHen) : Yeah, the wiki now refers to him as the Security Officer. : When talking to the SO, I would suggest using second-person terminology. : When talking about him, Durandal once uses the term "our friend".
I agree, speaking to him in the second-person usually does it, and when not, you can usually find a way to rephrase to avoid the problem. Hell, I'm really bad with names in real life, and will often go entire terms in school never learning the name of the person who sits next to me, with whom I have many conversations, because I never have to call them by name. The same thing works in Marathon. In Eternal, I've actually given the player a name (in Eternal X, it's Marcus Jones, as his actual name, borrowed in part from the address to "Security Chief Jones" from the Arthur Frane terminal in Infinity; in the earlier releases, it was Marcus Victor Mjolnir, a kind of mock name [Mark V Mjolnir] given to him by the techs of the timeframe the game begins in). Though only Hathor refers to the player by his name (and a "mission briefing" in the players' guide may refer to him by his last name). I find that just this first-name basis makes Hathor's terminals seem so much more personal than all the other terminals in the game, which is intentional as Hathor is supposed to be sort of a love interest (ish) as well as a tragic villain.
