In Response To: Re: agreed (Steve Levinson) : Boy, we have a conservative group here. Perhaps I've been around the dregs of
Well, I'm certainly not ready. No argument there. : Do you always
Heh, yes... I suppose I wonder what you mean by precautions and what you consider appropriate precautions. : If your girlfriend became pregnant, would you marry her
And do you believe this mal-care is a worse evil then abortion? The reason some anti-abortionists would throw out accidental pregnancy or bad timing as a case for abortion is they claim they believe human life is the ultimate priority. The possible ruining of the parent's life isn't actually a valid case for abortion. In the case where the mother may die is much more palatable to them because it's now involving the life or death of someone else. It because a trade of sorts. There are extremists (I also hate the term Fundamentalist) who believe that all cases of abortion should be avoided and outlawed. Including the scenario where it would save the mother. In the answer to the actual question you asked, of course I would take responsibility and assume the role of the father. As much as it might suck to do it. I honestly believe the reason you don't see more fathers take responsibility for their bastard children is because the kind of people who would take that sort of responsibility aren't going to leave the option open for chance. : Abortion should be a very difficult choice, a choice
In my opinion, if it has to be a choice, you are correct. For me the choice to allow or deny a human isn't a choice that other humans should really hold. Unfortunately, this sort of thing really tears my mind apart because of the two-edged sword of politics and religion. But again, I do respect the apparent choice that our government has handed in the form of abortion. If one of my friends had an abortion I wouldn't shun her. I'd disagree with her, but I'd still be her friend. Regardless of whether it's moral for it to be her choice, it is in no possible way mine (unless I'm the father, but that isn't going to happen). Does that make sense? Am I way off of my rocker? I'd appreciate knowing if I am... I don't get too much of a chance to talk about this with people of differing opinions. |
