There is a very, very big difference between "Darwinism"* and Social Darwinism. Social Darwinism is one of the worst pieces of psuedoscience that has ever existed. The logic goes that if Race A (lets say German Ubermen) can kill Race B (lets say European Jews) quicker then Race B can kill Race A, then Race A is more "evolved".
This is obviously bullshit. There is almost no genetic difference between Race A and B, so no actual physical evolution has happened. This is where the "social" bit comes in. Proponents of Social Darwinism believe that there is a perfect, ideal society and that Race A is closer to it then Race B (interestingly but almost unrelated is that moral relativists [who are almost exclusively agnostic or athiest] would not belive this, and so would not believe in Social Darwinism. This makes just about anyone who believes in Social Darwinism religious. NOTE: I'm not insulting religion with this. I'm just making an observation; hell, one that's probably wrong anyway.). There is no way to measure this "closeness" and thus it pretty much isn't science. Anyway, if killing off another race puts me on the path to a perfect society, maybe it's not that perfect after all.
Basically Social Darwinism was only in vogue in certain european countries up until the 1950s at latest. It is essentially a justification for being able to treat another group of humans poorly. It is not a science (because it can't be measured), and it has nothing to do with Darwin.
Evolution on the other hand is an exact field of science. It is a theory as the creationists love to point out, but so is gravity and I don't see many creationists trying to undermine the Theory of Gravity. There is a big difference between the everyday usage for the word "theory" and the scientific one. Consult google or a quality dictionary for more info.
And there are many, many religious people who believe in evolution.
Like the Pope.
Evolution and religion are not mutually exclusive.
*Darwinism is a bullshit term. I'm sorry, but it is. Darwin might have come up with the Theory of Evolution 170 odd years ago, but it has undergone significant changes since then. Even if you wanted to call me a Evolutionist, I've already pointed out the absurdity of this with the Theory of Gravity. Am I a Newtonist because of gravity? Am I a Einsteinist because of relativity? Am I a Daltonist because of atoms? Am I a Newstientonist? ... I think you can see where I'm going with this.
