And yes, I mean true ignorance, not stupidity.

I could get all flowery with the question, but why not just get down to it?

Here it goes:

What is the reasoning behind being secretive about Bungie's next title (or what COULD the reason be)?

I've never understood this, and am hoping some of you may be able to shed some light.

Given the abrupt ending of Halo 2, does anyone truly believe it's the last installment? Would the Xbox 360 truly not feature a 'Halo' game? The REAL shock to me would be to find out that they WEREN'T working on a final installment of the Halo series. Why wouldn't they be making Halo 3 (or whatever they'll call it)? Halo 2 set it up perfectly. Huh? Yes? No?

Ya, thought so.

Given that, why keep it a secret? Is the marketing machine not geared up yet perhaps? Is there something to be gained from waiting until later to say, "Yes, we are working on Halo 3!"

I pretty much think everyone will react with a hearty, "Ya...we er...kinda knew that."

I dunno, there is no doubt some big stuff I'm missing here, so illuminate me. :)
