In Response To: New CBS Interview (Spenser) "Different mediums, as they've come along, have had their share of controversy. From pulp horror, graphic novels, to movies, music and television; is this part of a cycle? "They [Conservative groups, watchdog groups] are just going through the motions. They’ve never played, read, or watched these things but they’ll be the first to condemn it." (Bolding in original document, italics not.) I've never heard of any conservative groups condemning and trying to ban or restrict the sales of video games. In fact, of the news that I could check, the only attempts to ban or restrict the sales of video games through any methods other than parental involvement were the proposed pieces of legislation in the states of California and Illinois, neither of which are states known for conservatism. Certain nations (notably Australia and some European nations) have banned or restricted the sale of “violent” games, but by and large these are not conservative nations. There were, of course, other news stories about groups condemning Halo without taking action to restrict sales, but by far the vast majority of even these groups neither claim nor express conservatism; many of them are in fact liberal organizations. Of the US politicians referenced in articles about violent games, all are democrats, belonging to a party not known for being conservative. Am I missing a whole lot of news here, or is this insertion by the editor rather off the wall? | |
