Hmmm - the theory is indeed interesting, that the index may be an archive that contains the DNA of created races, but on the whole I think there's still reasonable doubt on that - it's true there's obviously some connection between the Forerunners, Humans and Covenant, but I dont think we've got enough solid information to assume that they created both races from square one. That assumption doesn't explain why (if that's the case) the Humans had no knowledge of the Forerunners til that point but the Covenant did. If both races originally lived on the Halo, and then got moved away, why would one remember the forerunners and the other not? I've always assumed that given the apparantly enormous destructive power of the Halo, that the Index is in fact a set of protocols and Instrutions that allow the core to access and control the weapons system in the event of an Outbreak. Since we know the info contained in the Index is needed to fire the pulse, it would make sense you wouldn't keep said information contained within the core itself in case someone abused it. | |
