For Killercow -- Kinda long | |

In Response To: For Barkbat and Shiska... (Killercow) : it has holes? I'm not Barkbat, Shishka, or Tim Jones, but i'm feeling like punching holes in something tonight. First, your presumption is that the Flood require infectable hosts on which to feed. From what we've seen, the Flood infect the living, but merely feed on the dead (hence the piles of bodies in 'Keyes'). A whole lotta dead biomass would be like walking into the Buffet line at Ryan's for these guys. In addition, for the purposes of feeding, the Flood require only sufficient 'biomass' to sustain them, without any correlation to DNA. The mechanics of your theory would only kill (not make them inedible) the organisms about which the Index is aware. Unfortunately, that leaves every single organism that has evolved to attain 'sufficient biomass' status since the Forerunner left town untouched. So now, in addition to the Ryan's Buffet line, the Flood have quite a number of species of sufficient biomass (and possibly sufficient cognitive ability) on which to deploy their larva. Other than that, i like your reasoning behind the naming of the Index, though, to be perfectly honest, you're not the first one to think along those lines. In fact, your speculation isn't all that different from other ideas I've read here on the forum in the past. All you're doing is adding a different 'spin'. Ultimately, though, you really peeved my by assuming that your 'theory' was superior to other speculation on this website. Speculation from individuals whom i respect a helluva lot more than you. Your ideas are intriguing, but your presentation could use some work. Of course, if your theory had been that activation of the Halo immediately launched 100,000 mini 343 GS drones into slipspace - each drone assigned with the task of analysing all solar systems containing life within a given section of the galaxy...and then destroying that life, thereby ending the threat of Flood infection - we all might have had more fun. You know, it's best not to antagonize me when i've been drinking. I think i've said too much. Later. |
