: Just one yob's opinion. : -Matt 2 yobs'. your remark about lack of true human story interest nails the biggest fault of FF, imho. think about Aliens (the second in the series): everything about the plot centered on Ripley. her predicament made you really care about the film's resolution. take out Ripley's need to heal after the trauma of the first flick & all you really have is a nice looking shootemup like Alien: Resurrection, where i couldn't really relate to the Ripley clone at all. the biggest problem i can see with a Halo movie is not the medium's time constraints (surmountable -- the two Dune versions illustrate that), or difficulties with scripting (there are many examples of brilliant adaptations from diverse media), but the fact that Halo is FIRST PERSON! you choose how the game proceeds to a very large degree. this is simply not possible with celluloid storytelling, and i think it would be missed by viewers who are Halo aficianados, whether they even realize it or not. i think a much better approach would be to develop a movie based on the "Halo universe," one written from scratch as a MOVIE, coherent and cohesive in its own right, but much richer if you're "in the know" about Halo the game & FoR. this way the "first person" aspect need not be expected, and the movie can be appreciated on its own merits rather than being compared to the game. just this yob's do centavos. |
