I just tend to feel that thought on something as big as a motion picture requires a lot more than a "yeah, this would be cool!" And I'm aware you've put a lot of thought into this, which is why I'm curious to see your DVD release (My bad about the download thing), and see how you put it together. My question about your movie is such: Will it be something everyone can watch, or will it really only be out there for the Halo fans? I realize you can't please everyone, but I'm interested to know how you're going to use Halo material to make for an interesting plotflow of any length of time for a movie. Things like... How are you going to develop Master Chief? Stuff like that. I guess I'll have to wait and see. ;) : Well that’s high praise, or is that sarcasm? I’m not a Master. Not yet. ; ) : There is always someone to learn from. But to say, "Well this trend : has all been done before, why do it?" is the same defeatist attitude : that makes me want to ask: "Well, there are over two dozen FPS video : games out there, why do another?" Bungie obviously thought the market : had room for their idea and the fans responded. Same thing goes for the : potential film. It's a little of both. You're like me, you come off pretty strongly, but you definately know what you're talking about. ;) I respect your knowledge, and your affirmative and optimistic opinion about a movie, but (and this applies to me, as well, I know. ;) ) in regard to a "good" movie, just because you say it can be, doesn't make it so. : LOL! You make it sound like it hasn't happened to me! Or to many people I : know! : ) Or maybe that it doesn't happen to writers of books, or the : makers of films that have had their work re-made*? It DOES happen. And it's not like people go "Ah, oh well, my book has just turned into the summer's blockbuster failure. I'm gonna go play in the sprinkler." What if Bungie made a movie deal, with the agreement that they were in complete control of the movie? And what if Bungie, who would now be fishes out of water, spent all their time for a solid year working on this movie instead of the games they love to do? If the movie turned out badly ANYWAYS, then that's THAT much time Bungie will feel they've wasted. : Of course it's personal. I wouldn't bother with it, if it wasn't personal to : me too. That's stating the obvious. I'm sure Bungie feels that everything : they do is their "baby". Well, babies grow up. And I feel that : Bungie may have, dreamed it, created it, molded it, revised it, struggled, : nursed, and bleeded over it until HALO became what it is today. But it : belongs to the FANS, because they PAID for it. They are the ones that made : HALO what it is today. It will always be THEIR game. And if the fans are : asking for a HALO movie, well by God, I'll do everything I can to give it : to them. : ) I'm perfectly aware of Bungie's feelings and concerns, : believe me. And to be honest, I SHARE THEM. But the difference is the : answers to all the questions you posed earlier can all be answered. There : are no problems, only solutions. The fans also demand for things like "smoke grenades," "two seated banshee's," bizzare game modes, and often put their suggestions in the form of "Bungie should," as though they know better than Bungie. ;) Just remember that some of those FANS seem to have missed the point of Halo all together. Just because they WANT a Halo movie, doesn't mean that it'd be good. : Well they got a game that takes over 2 days down to 7 hours. Shouldn't be too : hard. : ) 2 days? Hehe, I've never taken more than 20 hours in Halo. : My attitude is not like that at all. I'm sorry you see me that way. It is : just a little frustrating to me to see you site the simplest problems : which almost all of them are handled in pre-production before a single : frame of film is shot, and use them as reason why it shouldn't even be : attempted. It's not rank, as you put it. It's experience. Your concerns, : and I'm sure others at Bungie as well, are answered by the experience and : talent that I know exists in the industry. *nods* We'll see. That's really all I can say. But then again, I'm not a believer. : Well I hate to disappoint you there, because it is going to be a free DVD : release, not a downloadable file. It would be easier to make with a : development kit, but I have no access to one. I'm sure you'll have many : comments and criticism ready and waiting in the weeks to come. But hey, : like I said, you can't please everyone. : ) Sorry about that again. And I'm not going to watch your movie through the eyes of one who feels it's pre-ordained that a Halo movie would flop. I'm sorry you have such a limited view : of my abilities. But since you brought it up... just for the : record.....(Class Subject, Winging It, The Autumn Heart, Abracadabra, : Civil Action...), to name just a few. : ) That's cool, what role did you play in the creation of these flicks? I'm not asking as part of this argument, this is genuine curiousity, kinda off topic if you will. ;) : Too late, you just did, see your last post. : Funny, I don't remember saying anything about telling you how to develop : games..... That... Was a bit of a joke, mostly directed at myself. Sorry. ;) : If you are so concerned with it turning out horrible, why not help? Why not : put forward your...personal input and insight into the film project to : help make it the HALO film Bungie employees and fans alike would be proud : of? Why not turn your fear and suspicion of "what might go : wrong" and turn it into "what we'll make right? I know it can be : done right, I feel it can be done right. Why not help to guide and maybe : correct, rather than outright condemn? For the record, I've been speaking about a highbudget full motion picture, not a fan made movie. The thing Bungie said "no" to a long time ago. If I felt I had any valuble input for a fan movie, I'd e-mail you. ;) However the bottom line is that I feel a Halo movie of larger proportions would go bad. Even if the entire crew had your enthusiasm over the idea, just because they say it'll be good, doesn't make it so. Ya know? One of us should get Matt's attention, see if he has time to address Bungie's thoughts on the idea of a movie. He hasn't posted here in a while... ;) Maybe I'll e-mail him later today and ask him what the guys think. -S
