Re: Yes, Yes, YES! : ) (long)

In Response To: No, No, NO. (Shishka)

Ok #1 in your post I think you intended to say : guerilla warfare, not gorilla warfare.

And #2: ......

: First, Bungie would not be the ones making the movie. They're a game studio,
: not a cinematics studio. That means that, at best, they could be behind
: the scenes, but the vision of the movie would end up being mostly the
: vision of the director.

Not exactly, close, but not exactly. Who ever has "Final Cut" has the greatest control over the artistic vision. This could be a number of people including the director, executive producer, or even a studio.

: If you ask me, the risk is just too damn high that a movie based on Halo
: would suck, and suck horribly.

What risk? To you as a fan, or to Bungie? To the "good name" of HALO? The risk that you might think it sucks? Well thank you. You know I was worried people wouldn't be able to make up their own minds. I'm so glad your here to tell us these things. Thank you. Really.

: Did it take you two, or even 3 hours to get through the entire game? No, of course not.
: So, what parts do you think would have to go?

I don't think anyone would do the film in real time. In fact most films cover long periods of time and yet only last 2 to 3 hours. Amazing what those fancy editors can do these days. Well let's see...the constant "walking" that comes to mind.....then their is the constant bullet spraying......etc. Maybe you just don't know how to edit? : )

:There WAS kind of a point to it all.

Gee, ya think?

: And yet, a lot of it would have to be thrown out to make the play-time reasonable.
: Then you've got the issue of how to take what you didn't cut out and rewrite it
: so it flows nicely in such a short time.

That's script writing and editing again....

:This means stuffing the story down, and mixing it with the proper amounts of action in : order to keep the movie compelling yet true to the idea. How do you make a movie out of a
: game based on gorilla warfare with mysterious undertones, and not overdo
: something? How do you push the store without changing Master Chief's
: character?

Just because YOU can't do it, doesn't mean it can't be done and done well. Don't worry, it's in the hands of professionals. We do this for a living.

: Where is the fine line between "good action movie" and "bad action movie?"

It’s in the eye of the beholder.

: How can you trust a director, who had NOTHING to do with the development process, to : keep your movie from becoming some kind of bullet-fest?

That's their job. I take it you've never worked with a director, or better yet, UNDER a director. There are just as many good ones out there as there are ones who would do a bad job. It comes down to the choice of the director and his vision for the film. With all the story material in the game as well as the book, "The Fall of Reach", I don't think you could go too far off the mark.

:How would you keep it from becoming something cheesy, like Tomb Raider? Or :misunderstood and, as such, disliked, like Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within? And Halo's :add more and more story and twists like an rpg or survival horror, so it doesn't have nearly :as much story points injected as Resident Evil did."

What are you looking for? A signed statement from the makers given to you as you walk into the theater that says "YOU WILL ENJOY THIS MOVIE" ? As with all things, some will like it, some will hate it. You cannot please everyone. No matter how "good" it would be. Someone out there, like yourself, will always find something they did not like. Always.

: Halo doesn't have the kind of story flow that would work well in a movie, so it'd have to be : changed, customized.

I couldn't disagree more.

: How much risk does that create? A lot. And looking at the general trend for Game :Movies, who'd be willing to make that risk for a game whose story they're basically going :to have to change to fit in a movie, anyways?

Thank you Mr. Lucas. Again with the risk? WHAT RISK? Even if the movie was made, and it was the worst piece of crap ever, the oceans will not dry up, planets will not collide, suns will not explode so what is this "risk" you keep talking about? Is it that you might be made fun of because you are a Halo fan? Is that it? And are you talking about a trend in films or about HALO? Stick to the subject.

: I didn't even go over the issues of bad acting, or bad voice acting. Just
: throw a few more million down the proverbial tube, and come to your own
: conclusions. The bottom line is, Bungie is very aware of the HUGE risk
: that a movie based on Halo would go horribly, horribly wrong, and as such,
: they have decided against taking it.

Really? Well, I'll just say this, you never know what the future holds. : )

: After all, what if Halo: The movie was a horrible failure? Then Bungie has that to live with, : and yeah, you bet they'd take it personally.

They would get over it.

: Or, what if it
: was a box office hit, but completely missed some of the things Bungie felt
: was the most important?

They would get over it even quicker.

:Think about it... There's just too big a chance that something would go wrong.

And if it does.....what......you haven't filled that one in yet.

:Just because the movie's called "Halo" doesn't mean it'd turn out to be any good at all, unfortunately.

Just because Robert DeNiro is in a movie doesn't make it a great one either. Look at Adventures of Rockey and Bullwinkle. : ) What's your point?

You really think that the success of the film is riding on the name? You seem to me to be a person who, how should I put this...doesn't take risks. Of any kind. It's obvious that you have simply made up your mind that you do not want to see HALO made into a film and will use any justification you can find to support that feeling. But I believe that HALO's story so well done it deserves to be seen and heard in a greater venue that just a video game. And I believe there are many others that feel the same.
