Plasma grenades explode a certain amount of time after they stick to a target or come to a rest. Frag grenades post-Halo 1 explode a certain amount of time after they touch something, and post-Halo 2, or maybe post-Halo 3, that's generally only if it bounces in a downward angle or ends up going in a downward angle, and then it explodes as soon as it's been going down for a certain amount of time-- there are exceptions because you can toss a frag grenade into a grav lift and it'll explode before it even gets as high as it can go. I think it's safe to say Spartans (and others) do something before or as they throw grenades that arms them, or maybe the act of throwing them arms them, because only after that will a plasma grenade (or a spike grenade for that matter) stick to things, only after that will a frag grenade leave a trail, only after that do grenades show up on the little nearby grenade indicator, and after that they're easier to blow up-- blowing up unarmed grenades varies across the Halo series, but I'm pretty sure in every game you can blow up an armed grenade by shooting it.

If there actually is a wall or something next to your target. If not it'll be a complete miss regardless, which doesn't help when a Ghost is barreling towards me.

It's not about how big it looks, it's about how big it is-- it's blocking the action.

fair enough; I'd also suggest getting rid of the little sprinting Spartan icon, it doesn't help

I just realized I forgot to ask: were you thinking that the jetpack would still be something you pick up?

You cannot fall off the floor.
