In Response To: Re: The trend of pre-order exclusives.. (uberfoop) : Not fully sure I agree. I probably could have had a playthrough or two of : ODST prior to the summer of 2010, but between a mild lack of accessability : and being in a bit of a Warcraft III period at the time, I didn't buy it : until then. But I'm not sure I could be regarded as "not a Halo : fan" during that time period, even if I wasn't very active in the : community or gameplay at the time. Unless fandom can reasonably be : considered sinusoidal at times. But that question leads to others. Like, : are we talking about being fans of games, or fans of series, or of : franchises? If I somehow dislike Halo 4 so much that I stop buying 343i's : games, do I cease to be a Halo fan because I'm no longer current? I think it would be appropriate to distance the term "fan" from "fanatic." In your situation, you would very clearly be a fan, not a fanatic. I too would be a fan. I didn't get to play Reach for a day or two because my 360 RRoD'd. My roommate definitely would have let me borrow his rarely-used Xbox to play on launch day, but I didn't bother asking. The lack of action on my part would classify me as a "fan," and not a "fanatic." That's not to say I haven't had some fanatical tendencies over the years (as has anyone who attended a midnight launch), but I think for fanaticism, it's one strike and you're out.
