As with anything, we don't know why anyone would want to watch any sport. You provide a spectator setting and the audience shows or it doesn't. It's no surprise that you only read about fans of the Halo game watching Halo as a spectator. I doubt it is even possible to get a non-player audience. So competitive sports have to increase the number of Halo fans watching the game. First there has to be fans of the game and second it has to be the game they play that they are watching. An extreme subset of the game is going to be found lacking in content for a regular player.
