In Response To: Halo isn't fun to watch... (davidfuchs) : ...because it's not built as a spectator sport. I can watch it and have no : real clue about what's going on due to its limited perspective that hops : from player to player. I think MLG in particular is boring because the : actual gameplay is stripped down and less interesting in the name of : competitiveness. : A game like Starcraft might lack the "immediacy" of a Halo game,
I enjoy watching REACH when being played normally. It's the watered down MLG presentation I find boring. Perhaps your Starcraft example can be learned from. What if for example Halo CTF were broken down into distinct phases which could be explained to the audience. Offensive setup, Defensive setup, and Engagement which does not begin for X seconds after gamestart. Each phase could be commented on. A first person or third person view could be used. It's reasonable to use first person perspective since no one can reasonably watch all the activity all of the time in most sports.
