When Halo was first established, it seemed that there were a few distinct full suit packages.

As the fiction expanded, we got some really quirky stuff, like Mk V apparantly only serving for a matter of months before becoming obsolete, whereas the Mk IV had been the staple for decades.

By Halo 3, the armor systems had started to seem quite modular, though only in an MP capacity.

In Halo: Reach, it's seemingly canonically established that half the hardware designers out there work on Mjolnir variant bits and pieces, and Mjolnir suits are effectively just a bunch of random pieces duct-taped together, so absurdly modular that many of the pieces of armor are impractically jutting way out from the suit itself.

Also, I think it's funny that people get stuck up on direct conflicts between details, when many of those same people can spend years of obvious implication retcon in areas like armour progression and not bat an eye.

In my case, it's mostly just a style cohesion issue I have with it. I have over 2 million credits in Reach and very little purchased armoury stuff; part of this is me wanting to not have anything to do with player investments, but moreso it's just that nothing interests me. The pieces that I DID purchase, I purchased because they actually simplified the base armour and made it look more consistent and solid.
